Fingerman – The Big Boppy EP [HOTDIGIT 134]

Fingerman – The Big Boppy EP [HOTDIGIT 134]

Hot Digits label boss Fingerman puts his new socks on for the phenomenal ‘The Big Boppy EP’ – a mesmerising 4 track trip across the disco-spheres and acid fields of tomorrow…

The bump and grind that makes up ‘Gettup (Into Tha Music) is a heady and spicy mix of good old honest disco beats, thumping bass solid funk hooks. At 118bpm, ‘Gettup’ has a familiar Miami ‘Sunshine Sound’ about it – demanding excessive finger pointing and pouting on the dance floor. You ordered infectious grooves and you’ve got ‘em.

When it comes to ‘Action Jackson’ we’re in full on stakeout music territory. At 118bpm, ‘Action Jackson’ comes bursting through your door, performing a forward roll and then firing two shots from behind the couch. Hand claps, expertly tight ‘four to the floor beats’ and ultra-funky guitar all blend with the perfect bass and sampled vocal. Oh, and why not throw in a pan pipe for good measure? Gloriously fun and sexy!

‘Acid Throbber’ does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s no secret that Fingerman has long mastered the 909 and 303 diddle, and ‘Acid Throbber’ is all the evidence you need. Taking you down to the lower, squelchy end of the audible spectrum, this 125bpm dark destroyer is reminiscent of the days when Trax Records and Warp dominated the scene with a tangible acid haze. With great power comes great responsibility – use this one wisely!

Closing the EP out is Fingerman’s boogie brother Chewy Rubs, who gives us a ‘Deep Heat Rub’ of Acid Throbber. The tempo may be scaled down a little, but this is every bit as dark, moody and brooding as the original take; just with the added spice bag of Chewy’s signature pumping, minimalist sound weaved into the foundations. Beware, this one is a real woofer buster!

The Big Boppy EP is a gorgeously crafted 4 tracker which blends big disco motifs with dark, trippy and hypnotic grooves and once again showcases label boss Fingerman’s considerable production talents. Watch this one fly up the charts!
